Danielle Ferry

Taking it one cookie at a time

Danielle Ferry, Director of The Cookie Barrel does not believe in the saying “That’s the way the cookie crumbles!” She is an eternal optimist much to the annoyance of those around her and is now an even greater believer in the saying “Every Cloud has a Silver Lining”.

Danielle has learnt many valuable lessons along the way and is keen to share with other business owners the highs and lows of a rapidly expanding business, the pros and cons of expansion and the importance of work/life balance. Something that she and her partner (who now works in the business too) have both achieved in the past year.

Where: Westpac Building, Perth

When: 5.45pm

More information

This year we are moving to the Westpac Building in the city starting with our February event. This is a fantastic move for us as I am sure you will agree. We will be starting earlier as well so people can come straight from work. In 2010 we have a celebrity Food Designer, Head of the Angel Investors Association of Australia, a peak into the future of Nanotechnology and much more.

Ross, aged 39, happily married father of 3, has spent the majority of his working life in the IT industry.

His first salaried job was as an analyst programmer for the Chase Manhattan Bank (now J P Morgan) in Bournemouth in the UK.

3½ years of corporate life was quite enough for Ross, and so he booked a one-way ticket to Africa. The next 4½ years were spent living, working and travelling in Africa, South America, and the Caribbean, including 1½ years managing an outdoor adventure company in the Venezuelan Andes. Introduced to the Internet in 1994/5 on a brief trip back to the UK, and realising its potential to connect people on opposite sides of the planet, Ross returned to Venezuela and established a website for the outdoor adventure company. This had the effect of dramatically increasing direct bookings from overseas, and completely confounding the local competition.

Shortly after arriving in Perth in 1997, and a brief stint as a cycle courier, he starting working as 'the web guy' for a small ISP based in Como. 2½ years later, and right in the middle of the .com crash, he was ready to go solo as website developer, and Itomic was born in July 2000.

In 2002, and now working out of a small office in the city, he started working on some joint projects with Ben Townsend of Media Factory. Ben had web graphic design skills, but little technical 'back end' programming experience. Ross had the reverse challenge, and so it was an obvious marriage. Itomic Pty Ltd was formalised in March of 2003, and has been going from strength to strength ever since. The financial year 06/07 was Itomic's most successful year on record - thanks to a dedicated and highly skilled team of web gurus. A diverse portfolio of nearly 400 valued clients include Quickstep Technologies, Sord Technologies, Bank West, BGC Contracting, The Brisbane Hotel, Brunel Energy, Downing Teal, Equinox Minerals, Highgrade Publishing, L7 Solutions, Lords Sports Club, Metlabs Engineering, Scene Models, State Swim, Stirling Business Association, and Ventura Homes.

Ross has strong entrepreneurial tendencies which he's unable to deny or suppress. Going forward his challenge is to learn how to organise his ideas into the good, the bad, and the downright ugly.
